In the
world of Showbiz, Tyler Perry has been seen as a Hollywood heavyweight
playwright and a billionaire media mogul who has just been hit with a $260
million sexual abuse lawsuit.
Actor
Derek Dixon, famous for his role in the series "The Oval," one of
Perry’s works, recently filed a $260 million lawsuit against Tyler Perry, with
an alleged sexual harassment, assault and emotional abuse.
In Dixon’s
file, he mentioned that all he wanted was a professional encounter with Perry
but his dream became a nightmare. “I thought I had finally found someone who
believed in me,” Dixon reportedly told his legal team. According to Dixon, his
professional encounter which began in 2019 during the opening of Tyler Perry
Studios allegedly grew into unwanted advances, sexual text messages and most of
all, unwanted physical contact.
The actor
claims that Perry used his power to manipulate him into silence, with a threat
to kill off his character if he failed to comply. He further said that he was
left with anxiety, PTSD, and financial loss after walking away from his role as
a result of the emotional toll that had been placed on him.
Perry’s
lawyer has also denied the allegations and called the lawsuit a “scam to make
money”. In an interview with Perry’s attorney Matthew Boyd, he told the BBC,
“This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be
nothing but a setting up scam, but Tyler will not be shaken down.”
For Dixon
Derek, this lawsuit isn’t just about money, “it’s about being heard”, he said
in a message which was shared by his attorneys. “It’s about making sure this
doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
As the
legal process unfolds, both men are at a pivotal moment, one seeking justice
while the other defending a legacy built over the decades and in the middle
stands the entertainment world that is watching closely at the heartbreaking
allegations against one of their all-time favourite playwright.
1. Image
Representation Analysis
The image
does not depict accurately represent the headline "From newsroom to
farmland." This is because, the interviewee, Araba Koomson appears to be
dressed in a formal attire which depicts an interview or media setting and
nothing about being on a farm. Instead of the urban-like setting, a rural or
agricultural setting could have been used or an image of Araba in a farming
gear could have been used.
2.
Emotional Tone:
Rather
than the feeling of urgency or controversy, the image evokes warmth. This is
because Araba Koomson is smiling warmly, giving that friendly and open notion
to viewers or audiences. The setting is green showing serenity and calmness and
peace, not one of urgency.
3. Visual
Bias and manipulation Analysis
There is a
little sense of bias in the image. This is because the visual framing of Araba
Koomson who is polished depicts nothing associated to farming or agriculture
but instead a media personality or a formal interview setting.
4. Framing
Techniques
In terms
of framing, the close-up shot was used, showing Araba's facial expressions,
attire and personality and that kept the viewer's attention on her past media
identity instead of her environment or her new agricultural identity. Also,
there is no farming element present in the frame, thereby contradicting the
"farmland" narrative.
5. Story
Depth Analysis:
The image
does not add depth to the story. This is because, there are no clues about her
current life on the farm, no storytelling elements like farming tools or
farming setting that could have shown her evolution from the media to
agriculture, and there is also no "before and after" visual narrative
to show the transformation. Therefore, the image only reinforces the headline.
6.
Alternative Image analysis:
Yes a
different image could change the reader's perception of the news. The reader
would immediately understand the transition of the former media personality
into an agriculturalist provided Araba was shown in a farm setting, in a farm
gear or holding tools.

Comparison with Other Coverage
In
comparison to others covering the same story, The story is exclusive only to

8.
Cultural Significance
Yes the
image is culturally significant although nothing about culture is seen at first
glance. But on a second glance the image depicts a modern Ghanaian female
professional identity.
NEWS ANALYSIS OF "ONE DEAD,
ANOTHER INJURES IN SHOOTING INCIDENT AT A NAMING CEREMONY IN GBAWE"
Story by
Citinewsroom
1. Image
Accuracy
The image
which shows a gun strongly depicts violence but doesn't accurately represent
the headline. There is no reference to a naming ceremony, Gbawe which is the
place of the incident or even the injured persons.
2.
Emotional analysis
The image
evokes urgency because the smoke coming out of the pulse Ghana used an image
which showed people seated at the ceremony sitting under a tree, some women
clad in white cloth who looked like queenmothers and the celebrants who are all
seated in a state of emotional tragedy and disbelief.
3.
Cultural and Political Significance
The image
is not culturally or politically significant. The has a western-like photo of a
gun often used in movies and so does not reflect Ghanaian culture.
4. The
image does depict manipulation in any way but is instead a symbolic image and
not an actual photo fromthe Gbawe shooting.
In this
image, the lighting used is quite contrasting. This is because, the gun has a
shiny appearance and then there is a dark background but that contrast makes
the image give a tense feel. The gun barrel and the smoke are also greatly
focused while every other element is blurred.
5. No the
image does not add depth to the news headline. There is only an image of a
smoking gun which shows someone has just been shot but there is no hint of the
naming ceremony or a gathering.
6. Yes a
different image would change the viewer's perception of the story. If there was
an image which showed the crying mother or grieving family or even the venue of
the event with blood stains on the ground, the viewer would have understood the
headline at first glance.
7. Pulse
Ghana used an image which showed people seated at the ceremony sitting under a
tree, some women clad in white cloth who looked like queen mothers and the
celebrants who are all seated in a state of emotional tragedy and disbelief.
