STOP THE CHAOS,SCRAP DUMSOR TAX- Minority to Government 


The minority caucus in parliament (Hon.Alexander Afenyo Markin has introduced a severely damaging attack on the NDC led government over what it describes as an embarrassing on the controversial Energy Sector levies (Amendment)Act ,2025 which is widely known as DUMSOR levy, following its indefinite suspension by the GRA.

Statement has been issued on Sunday 15 June ,Hon . Alexander condemned the decision to postpone the implementation of the levy just days before its scheduled commencement on June 16 ,stating it as a proof of government's "chaotic and inconsistent approach to economic governance.

The eleventh hour shows a perfect trail and error strategy and reveals a disturbing lack of stakeholders engagement prior to the passage of the law. The minority therefore ask the government to present reasons to defend themselves in this crisis.He therefore cited that global crude oil price fluctuate rapidly and unpredictably due to the conflict between Iran-Israel . The past administration was condemned due to the use of global conflict as an excuse,they are now the ones using those arguments to defend the policy failure. The Dumsor levy was a problem also Ghanaians are suffering under the high cost of living and any additional added levies may disturb them in the future.

Hon.Alexander Afenyo Markin therefore dismissed government that the Dumsor levy will be used to stabilise the energy sector and service legacy doubts . He concluded that ,the past government did not suffer any problem regarding power supply,so they should not blame the worsening power crisis on the Levy's absence indicating that instead focus on the operational inefficiency at ECG .

He concluded saying the current president should remember the promises before any other move .
